Working in the PMO for my company, I would see it as an added value to be able to set milestones in a masterplan and containing all high level details and actions, and have use these milestones in different subprojects. Or for example, we run 3 different improvements projects simultaneously which have dependencies to each other. We would love to give them each an own project space and put 3 different administrators, and have them link activities to each other.
Hi William,
Thanks for the feedback! This kind of feedback we hear from time to time. To understand the needs a little bit more I would like to ask some questions. What do you think are the greatest advantages of keeping the three subprojects in different project spaces, as compared to having them all in one project space. That is, what are you main reasons for wanting to have three different project spaces and three different administrators?
Best regards
Ylva
Hi Ylva, thanks for responding so quickly. Well it has to do with confidentiality and structure. A practical example, I am part of an Integration Management Office, responsible for the overall project plan. This project plan is shared with all different line managers and only these line managers should use and see this project space. The line managers have their own plan linked to this master plan and have all relevant team members involved in this. We want to avoid having everyone in 1 project space as this might cause to much contamination and reduce the overview. So to summarize, we want maintain a clear structure in our projects, creating clean project spaces for everyone. And these project spaces need to follow the plan of the master project space.
Thank you for giving insight into your situation. I will check with product management about our future plans for supporting this kind of scenario.
Regards
Ylva
Hi again William,
Right now we are working on a replacement for our Portfolio tool, aimed at monitoring groups of projects. Eventually this tool will probably evolve in a direction where you will have support for aligning the plans for a group of projects, which I think could be valuable for you based on what you are writing. Watch out for releases of our Monitor tool!
Best regards
Ylva
Hi Ylva,
Sounds great! Thanks for coming back with an answer.
Best regards,
William
Hi,
Could you tell me when I can expect implementation of dependencies between projects, please? Like William, I have a number of project which are confidential (legal and regulatory reasons) but need to co-ordinate number of activities (tasks) and be informed to changes to a selected documents outside the scope of one projects. For example change to signing a contract ($, date, conditions) influences construction project and hiring project.
Best Regards
Jurek
Hi,
We would also very much appreciate to be able to keep track of dependencies between projects.
Brgds
Daniel
