I think a PROPER SHARED CALENDAR is required which links to Outlook even if the SYNC is not real time. At least you could log on and check peoples availability. If you incorporate the last logged on time you can have a good idea how accurate it is. This is vital given the number of Projects that work with people outside your own orgnisation.
Calendar management - a nightmare topic ;-)
I am inclined to support this idea. However, there are so many different calendar set-ups in project teams, especially when working with external companies where a synchronisation of calendars can be challenging anyway.
Therefore I am promoting the "find meeting time" functionality in my projects which I consider good enough for the purpose of calendar synchronisation.
Kind regards
Johannes
For me the biggest issue is when you have people who have part time roles on a project i.e. when they have a day job and are contributing to your project. Therefore getting time and co-ordianting discussion and meetings is very hard. Hence the request. You end up having to call each one which as you say is a nightmare.

Any calendaring solution is only as good as it can integrate into user's primary calendar. People are not going to go online to watch a calendar. This is a good idea!
"Find meeting time" is useless unless participants can somehow upload their (un)availability to PP from their primary calendar. Although installing apps which sync data has security concerns, I for one would love if my project members had some way to sync calendars with PP.
At least implement iCalendar support. The users could add it to any calendar software (desktop, cloud whatever) that supports the .ics format.

We are currently developing a calendar feed that will let you subscribe to a consolidated calednar feed in iCal format for all your projects. You will also have the possibility to customise what types of events you want in this feed. I know that this is not exactly what was proposed in this idea so the status remains unchanged but many of the comments called for a calendar feed so this is just for information.
Planned release in Q3.
Best regards,
